Bilateral Agreement Information Sessions & Call for EYC Applications

The Canada - PEI Bilateral Agreement on Early Learning and Child Care was signed earlier this fall.  Since that time the Department of Education, Early Learning and Culture has been working to mobilize the agreement.

As we proceed, we will keep the sector up to date on new opportunities and initiatives as they come on stream. We will do this through direct email and the weekly ECDA “Week at aGlance” E-Newsletter.  As new Programs and or initiatives will be posted on the Education, Early Learning and Culture website at https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/information/education-early-learning-and-culture/new-investments-2017-2020.

Current Initiatives

Early Years Center Designation – Call for Applications
Licensed Early Childhood Centers in the municipalities of Charlottetown, Stratford and the area including and adjacent to the communities of Montague, Lower Montague, Brudenell, and Cardigan are invited to apply for an Early Years Center Designation. Visit https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/information/education-early-learning-and-culture/early-years-center-designation for information.  The application deadline is Dec. 15, 2017.

Work in Progress
Work is now underway to define criteria and processes for the following initiatives, with the goal of implementing new projects and initiatives early in 2018.

  • Plans for new spaces, including capital grants;
  • Increased access to the Child Care Subsidy Program;
  • Alternate Hours; and
  • Training Grants.

Information Sessions – for Supervisors, Owners, and Board Members
Early Learning and Child Care Center supervisors, owners, and Board members are invited to attend information sessions on the Canada-PEI Bilateral Agreement.  Participants will learn more about the agreement, receive project updates, ask questions, and provide input and feedback into the project. Please register on-line for the session of your choice.
