Payment Policy:

The ECDA's payment policy for all Professional Development is that fees must be paid prior to attending*. The final date to make your payment is one week prior to the start date of the event, unless otherwise communicated (i.e. council or board run centres for cheque approval/signature, would be the exceptions). If payment is not received, before the event payment deadline, you will not be permitted to attend.

In the past, exceptions have been made by the ECDA, but with our growing membership, it has become increasingly difficult to manage. We thank you for your understanding and your commitment to your ongoing Professional Development. The ECDA.

*If you are mailing a cheque, please be aware you should allow a few days ahead of the deadline for it to be received by the ECDA office.

The November 22nd Supervisors' Network Meeting will be part 3 of the 3 part Emotional Intelligence Training Series facilitated by Wendy MacIntyre with resolveHR, held Wednesday November 22nd at 9:30 am - 12:30 pm at the Centre Belle Alliance.

This training experience is most valuable to anyone working as a Supervisor/Director. More often reference is being made to pedagogical leadership within early learning and child care programs. There are many facets to leadership however; research would agree that emotional intelligence is fundamental to effective leadership.

This series will be offered at the Centre Belle Alliance, Summerside.

You will enjoy this session and it will positively influence your leadership skills! We encourage supervisors from all across PEI to join us! Please note that registration is now necessary for all network meetings!

Emotional Intelligence Training
with Wendy MacIntyre

The labour force has moved from being primarily focused on labour, to knowledge, and we are now we can say that we are in a relationship economy. With this “economy” progression, the study of emotional intelligence has increased, furthering the understanding of how EI contributes to building and participating in relationships. We understand that training and education are needed to build knowledge and skills, and in the relationship economy we must also take training and learn about skills associated with emotional intelligence. In this workshop series, three areas of emotional intelligence are going to be reviewed and discussed:

Self-Perception: The EQ-I 2.0 model of emotional intelligence starts with Self-Perception. Understanding yourself allows you to better express yourself. This leads to healthier interactions with others, which then leads to making good decisions. Making good decisions allows you to manage stress better, which leads to understanding your emotions better, etc. In this area of emotional intelligence, self-awareness, self-regard, and self-actualization will be discussed.

Self-Expression: The Self-Expression area of emotional intelligence builds on Self-Perception and addresses the outward expression or the action component of one’s internal perception. This aspect of emotional intelligence is made of Emotional Expression, Assertiveness, and Independence. It reflects on a person’s tendency to be self-directed and openly express thoughts and feelings in constructive and socially acceptable ways. Emotional Expression, Assertiveness, and Independence are parts of this area of emotional intelligence.

Interpersonal: The Interpersonal area includes Interpersonal Relationships, Empathy, and Social Responsibility. This area of emotional intelligence measures one’s ability to develop and maintain relationships based on trust and compassion; articulate an understanding of another’s perspective’ and act responsibly while showing concern for others, a team, or a greater community or organization.

The ECDA has been supporting Directors and Supervisors for nearly ten years through the Supervisors Network. The intention of the group is to encourage open dialogue and knowledge exchange to enhance quality practices, such as human resource practices and policies, pedogogy and leadership. The Supervisors Network is open to all supervisors, directors, and administrators of licensed early learning and child care programs. No previous attendance or membership necessary - come one, come all!
