10 Reasons to Choose Quality Early Learning and Child Care

Expert knowledge Early childhood educators are experts in child development and are trained to create inspiring learning environments!
Intentionality Early childhood educators provide your child the gift of time and attention. They will stop and explore the new flowers or jump in the mud puddles with your child.
Young at heart Early childhood educators know how to have fun! They’re not afraid to be silly and laugh with your child; all while nurturing your child’s creativity and helping to build their self-confidence.
Setting limits Every child needs reasonable boundaries, such as no playing ball inside. Early childhood educators set limits and support families in doing the same.
Love of literacy Early childhood educators read and tell stories, sing songs, and do puppet shows to inspire a love of language and to build early literacy skills.

Confidence boost Early childhood educators provide safe opportunities for your child to be independent and to become confident in their personality and decision making skills.
Inspired learning Early childhood educators ask open-ended questions to inspire creative thought and curiosity, to encourage children to explore, and to make learning fun.
Life skills Early childhood educators use their expertise to develop programs that use play as a tool for teaching math, literacy, science and essential life skills that last for life!
Making friends Early childhood educators are educated to appropriately support children to gain social skills, which are so important in making friends and developing positive relationships!
Helping hand Everyone gets stumped by parenting from time to time - juggling schedules, demands, and behaviours. When it gets tough and you need someone to talk to, reach out to your child’s early childhood educator!

Make & Take Workshop (Charlottetown)

Note: We will be repeating this workshop again in Summerside on April 16th.

Max: 20 participants

Participants of the Make & Take Workshop will break into groups to ‘Make’ a tool/material to ‘Take’ back to their classroom! The projects of this workshop will focus on early literacy, and the belief is that by working together it will give us the chance to reach all ages; infants through preschool. The event will include 2 – 3 projects, and the attendees can choose which projects they’d like to do.

Workshop Description:
ECEs by nature are a fairly resourceful and creative group of people. We have the ability to turn simple materials into wonderful tools for our classroom. We see the possibility in the mundane and are able to think outside the box. How would you like to come join us for a session where we do just that?  We will take a variety of simple materials and together we will create some classroom materials focused on early literacy. Come ready to work, we will supply the materials and at the end of the night you will leave equipped with a bag full of new tools, and maybe even a few more ideas for your classrooms! Together we will talk about the importance of having a print rich environment and providing children with environmental print that is meaningful to them such as their names and those of their friends! We will create materials that will reiterate this and keep this interest fresh and exciting for the children in your care.

Mandy MacNevin-Reynolds
is an infant educator who has worked at Milestones Early Years Centre for the past 10 1/2 Years.  Her passion to help foster the early years field here in PEI is what drove her to become a member of the ECDA board of directors, where she loves getting involved in many activities that help build our field up.

Megan McPhee has been in the child care field for ten years, working primarily with preschool children during my time. In 2012, she graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island with a Bachelor of Arts degree focusing on Political Science and English. While finishing her degree the opportunity to take the blended ECE program through Holland College arose, and she jumped at the opportunity. In 2016 she graduated with my Early Childhood Education diploma.  In 2017, she was nominated for, and later received the Educating with Excellence Award. Her passions for loose parts, respecting childhood, and  lifelong learning have fueled her journey.
