This event has been approved by the Early Learning and Child Care Board for 1.50 professional development training hours.

Payment Policy:

The ECDA's payment policy for all Professional Development is that fees must be paid prior to attending*. The final date to make your payment is one week prior to the start date of the event, unless otherwise communicated (i.e. council or board run centres for cheque approval/signature, would be the exceptions). If payment is not received, before the event payment deadline, you will not be permitted to attend.

In the past, exceptions have been made by the ECDA, but with our growing membership, it has become increasingly difficult to manage. We thank you for your understanding and your commitment to your ongoing Professional Development. The ECDA.

*If you are mailing a cheque, please be aware you should allow a few days ahead of the deadline for it to be received by the ECDA office.

Refund Policy:

Please be aware that to receive a full refund of your registration fees, notice must be provided to the ECDA, via email, 2 weeks prior to the start date of the event. Beyond that, to receive a 50% refund of fees for a cancelled registration, appropriate documentation ie, doctor's certificate or such must be provided.

Program Practices that are Better for the Planet with SucSeed

This session will educate on a deeper understanding surrounding the concept of sustainability as well as how to educate young children on the concept of sustainability and create a more sustainable environment in your early learning setting.

SucSeed focuses on Sustainability and SDGs, and decreasing food insecurity through hydroponic gardening. Our indoor gardens are in community centres, retirement complexes, homes, and over 1000 classrooms across the country.

 

Facilitator Biographies:

Emily Bland is a social entrepreneur with an agricultural heart. She is a 3rd generation farmer from rural Newfoundland and Labrador and is the current Seed-EO of SucSeed; a hydroponic social enterprise that is on a mission to help the world grow.SucSeed designs and builds hydroponic gardens that are built by youth experiencing homelessness in partnership with Choices for Youth. SucSeed has gardens in over 1,000 schools educating over 25,000 students every year, over 2,000 homes and over 200 community groups across Canada. In 2021, SucSeed became the first B Corp in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Hayley is a level II Early Childhood Educator currently finishing up her degree in Early Childhood Studies online through Toronto Metropolitan University. The newest member of the SucSeed team, Hayley is the Early Childhood Development Lead. She is excited about bringing hydroponic gardening into the Early Childhood setting and encouraging children in childcare to explore the concept of sustainability in an age-appropriate way through activities and hands-on experiences, creating little global citizens and helping them find their ecological identities.
