Ashley has worked with every age group and has been really working on developing her teaching into a full emergent curriculum, for all ages. Once being switched to an Infant teacher after a long stint as a Pre-K educator she saw the need for true authentic emergent curriculum in the infant space, she challenged herself to think outside of the box and away from the norms, to view the infants just as capable as the Pre-k and to be in tune to all the observations and interests the infants were showing.
The progress, growth and fun that came with a full emergent curriculum mindset, created a beautiful learning environment filled with so much fun and wonder. Ashley Noticed a trickle down to the students she housed from Holland College. This has always been one of Ashley's strong passions, teaching the next generation of ECE’s, making them feel valued, respected and a part of the team, making sure to give them hands-on training while working together as co-teachers. Ashley has had great success with all of her Holland College students. During this session she will discuss emergent curriculum, and demonstrate with tangible work, observations, displays, stories and activities she has done in her classrooms over the years. She will help you hone in on your mentor skills and how to provide a supportive learning environment for our next generation of ECEs, how to switch your mind set of students is “more work.” The best way to be an authentic teacher is to find your authentic self, get back to your roots and your joy in the field!
Facilitator Bio:
Ashley Shoemaker is a mom of two, Grace 10 and Carter 3! She has been in the ECE field for 12 years, during this time she has worked with every age group, as well as an SNA and IBI Tutor. She is a huge advocate for children with exceptionalities within the community and looks to ensure that they receive the same quality of care and properly educated staff. She completed her Early Childhood Diploma through the blended program the first time it rolled out, so she is used to the learning while working dynamic!
