Workshop Description
Exploring science with young children is an exciting and organic process that is most effective when it emerges from the children’s own interests, questions and experiences. As educators we need to be prepared to recognize and to support these explorations when they arise. This workshop offers suggestions on how to begin this process. First we will look at some real world examples of children exploring science. Next we will work hands-on with materials that you might use to encourage or to support science experiences with your own group of children. In addition we will consider how to use loose parts and found objects as “scientific equipment”. Finally we will look at the types of science questions that seem to arise on a regular basis with young children and we will consider how you can start to acquire materials, to have on hand, that will support these explorations. Come along for a very hands-on science experience.
