10 Reasons to Choose Quality Early Learning and Child Care

Expert knowledge Early childhood educators are experts in child development and are trained to create inspiring learning environments!
Intentionality Early childhood educators provide your child the gift of time and attention. They will stop and explore the new flowers or jump in the mud puddles with your child.
Young at heart Early childhood educators know how to have fun! They’re not afraid to be silly and laugh with your child; all while nurturing your child’s creativity and helping to build their self-confidence.
Setting limits Every child needs reasonable boundaries, such as no playing ball inside. Early childhood educators set limits and support families in doing the same.
Love of literacy Early childhood educators read and tell stories, sing songs, and do puppet shows to inspire a love of language and to build early literacy skills.

Confidence boost Early childhood educators provide safe opportunities for your child to be independent and to become confident in their personality and decision making skills.
Inspired learning Early childhood educators ask open-ended questions to inspire creative thought and curiosity, to encourage children to explore, and to make learning fun.
Life skills Early childhood educators use their expertise to develop programs that use play as a tool for teaching math, literacy, science and essential life skills that last for life!
Making friends Early childhood educators are educated to appropriately support children to gain social skills, which are so important in making friends and developing positive relationships!
Helping hand Everyone gets stumped by parenting from time to time - juggling schedules, demands, and behaviours. When it gets tough and you need someone to talk to, reach out to your child’s early childhood educator!

Workshop 3 (PM): "Surrounded By Science" with Jane MacKenzie & Lea Anne Joudrie

1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Conference Centre | Argus Room

Workshop Description
Science is everywhere in our daily practice with young children. In fact it is right under our noses, we just need to take the time to look and listen and facilitate. Children are naturally curious about this big world we live in. That curiosity can be a stepping stone for critical thinking, independent and original thought (something that we are seeing less and less of in today’s society). In this workshop, participants will; discuss misconceptions about science, consider inquiry based learning, expand their thinking about the many ways to experience science everyday, have the opportunity to explore a broad range of hands on science experiences.

Facilitator Bio: Jane MacKenzie & Lea Anne Joudrie (NS)
Jane has been an early childhood educator for more than 35 years and still looks forward to going to work every single day. She has been the director of the Dr. Jane Norman Child Study Centre for 20 years, and is an instructor with the college. For the past 16 years she has been leading child study centre staff in the development of the emergent curriculum classrooms. In 2015 she satisfied a long time dream of participating in a Reggio Emilia study tour, cementing her resolve that the emergent approach best supports the unique learning needs of all children.
Lea Anne was a director/early childhood educator of a licensed early learning center for 32 years. She also ran an approved family home program until taking on the role of practicum coordinator/instructor for the Jane Norman College. Lea Anne teaches courses in both the first and second year of the college’s ECE diploma program. She has a particular passion for supporting children’s reconnection with nature and designing natural environments that support children’s learning and wellbeing.
