Transforming the Traumatized Brain
with Kristen MacLeod
8:30 am - 12:00 pm
Your Role in Understanding and Shaping the Brains of Overly-Stressed Children Recent research is increasingly demonstrating the negative impact that trauma and neglect can have on the development of young children. In this talk, Dr. McLeod will review the recent research on the impact of trauma on the regulation abilities of children, and then, though the use of real-life examples, help strengthen understanding of what this impact looks like in early childhood and preschool settings. From there, Dr. McLeod will discuss the critical role of adults in providing trauma-informed care, and discuss the dramatic impact trauma-informed approaches can have on shaping the pathways for both children and the adults who care for them. This talk will provide not just stronger understanding, but also tools for better addressing dysregulation across settings, as well as providing tools for addressing the personal stress and burnout that can come from caring for trauma-impacted children.
