Workshop Description:
This highly interactive session will explore the distinctive outcomes associated with using art as therapy, and why it works. Participants explore the concept of using art therapy for grief and loss in the classroom, and using art therapy and storytelling for agency building in the cotext of a daycare. Participants are asked to come prepared to create, and are asked to dress in clothing appropriate for crafting.
Facilitator Bio: Evie Dunville (NS)
Evie Dunville; a Halifax native, is a sometime jeweller, sometime doula, sometime poet, sometime singer – undeniably a writer and an Art Therapist. Evie completed her BA in Psychology and English in 2004 from Mount Saint Vincent University, her BFA in Jewellery Design and Metalsmithing in 2010 from NSCAD University, and her certification as an Art Therapist in 2016 from the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute.
Evie intertwines the written word with her art, creating a body of work wherein the form is either emphasized or accentuated by prose while saving time for fun, quirky pieces that explore non-traditional materials. This intentionality and way of being permeates her approach to therapeutic sessions, meeting the client with respect, faith and acceptance.
