This online workshop focuses on how we can support children’s language development in the early years. Included will be practical, interactive strategies to help children engage and communicate with their caregivers. Some of the topics covered will be:
• Children’s conversational styles
• The roles caregivers play
• Knowing how and why children communicate and how we can more effectively support them
• Strategies we can use to encourage interaction and conversation
• How to use rhymes and stories to help build emergent literacy skills
• Ways of supporting families as partners in building language skills
Facilitator Biography:
Bookmates is a Manitoba based not-for-profit organization, established in 1984 with a mission to develop and deliver early years programs and training to build and support the foundations of literacy and learning. We are regularly invited to present at conferences and workshops to share our expertise. Our history of developing and delivering accessible, relevant early years literacy training and programs enables us to successfully address emerging needs and topics with our services.
Nancy Tovell is the Program Coordinator at Bookmates. She has a wide range of experience in facilitating workshops with a focus on sharing strategies, tools and resources to support those working with families and young children. She graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree and has been at Bookmates since 2014.

In addition there will be a log tracking which members contribute and which do not, and those that do not contribute will not receive PD hours. We ask that you leave your camera on for the session.
