10 Reasons to Choose Quality Early Learning and Child Care

Expert knowledge Early childhood educators are experts in child development and are trained to create inspiring learning environments!
Intentionality Early childhood educators provide your child the gift of time and attention. They will stop and explore the new flowers or jump in the mud puddles with your child.
Young at heart Early childhood educators know how to have fun! They’re not afraid to be silly and laugh with your child; all while nurturing your child’s creativity and helping to build their self-confidence.
Setting limits Every child needs reasonable boundaries, such as no playing ball inside. Early childhood educators set limits and support families in doing the same.
Love of literacy Early childhood educators read and tell stories, sing songs, and do puppet shows to inspire a love of language and to build early literacy skills.

Confidence boost Early childhood educators provide safe opportunities for your child to be independent and to become confident in their personality and decision making skills.
Inspired learning Early childhood educators ask open-ended questions to inspire creative thought and curiosity, to encourage children to explore, and to make learning fun.
Life skills Early childhood educators use their expertise to develop programs that use play as a tool for teaching math, literacy, science and essential life skills that last for life!
Making friends Early childhood educators are educated to appropriately support children to gain social skills, which are so important in making friends and developing positive relationships!
Helping hand Everyone gets stumped by parenting from time to time - juggling schedules, demands, and behaviours. When it gets tough and you need someone to talk to, reach out to your child’s early childhood educator!

2017 ECDA Ultimate Night Out & Award Recipients

June 14th, 2017

The 2017 ECDA Ultimate Night Out was Friday June 9th, and it was one for the books! We heard some great feedback about the more relaxed (yet ultimate!) evening. Guests enjoyed hors d'oevres, a dessert buffet, photo booth, inner child readings, live music, awards, trivia, prizes and more!

First of all, we want to congratulate our two ECDA Awards of Excellence winners! Gerry Foote from Appleseed was presented the Cooking for Quality Award, and Megan McPhee from Little Wonders took home the Educating with Excellence Award.

More than 60 Commitment to Care pins were awarded, adding up to over 1,500 years of service in early childhood education. A special congratulations goes out to the group of ECEs pictured above, who celebrated 30+ years of commitment: Anne Miller, Beverly Francis, Carolyn Simpson, Elizabeth Jeffery, Holly Moses, Jane Fisher, June Scott, Karen Picot, Marlene Loo, Mary Baird, Natalie Clarkin, Pam Barrett, Sharon Hachey, Shelley Moase, Silvana Zanatta, Susan Ashley

We also recognized 3 special individuals who have recently retired from the field, after long careers in early childhood: Jane Fisher, Mary Baird, Hazel White

We were pleased to welcome the Minister of Education Early Learning and Culture, Doug Currie, who presented the awards and years of service pins, and shared some exciting news that would go on to be announced this past Monday regarding the provincial-federal agreements on investments to early childhood education in Canada (see more information in the article below).

A big thank-you to our amazing vendors for the evening: Instabooth Photo Booth, City View Bakehouse, Health Within Holistic, Nathan Carragher & Katie Kerr, Darcy Campbell, and our entertainment sponsor City of Summerside.

And we are thankful for the local businesses who donated door prizes: Owl's Hollow, Bricks 4 Kidz, PEI Employee Benefits Agency, Piatto Pizzaria, Dynamic Fitness, Riverview Market, KJL Select Meats.

Once again thanks to all of you who joined in on the fun and celebration of PEI's early childhood super stars! Photos from the evening have been posted to the ECDA Facebook page, click the link below to have a look!
